Matt Smith plays Ryan Gosling's opponent in the new "Star Wars" film

Los Angeles. The cast of the new "Star Wars" film has grown. Alongside Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth, Matt Smith will be appearing in "Star Wars: Starfighter," as several US media outlets reported unanimously, citing informed sources.
The British actor (42, "House of the Dragon," "Morbius") will take on the role of a villain and antagonist to Gosling (44, "Barbie," "Drive"), who plays the lead role. Mia Goth (31, "Emma," "Infinity Pool") will also appear as Gosling's opponent.

The film, directed by Shawn Levy (56, "Deadpool & Wolverine"), is scheduled to have its world premiere in May 2027. Shooting is scheduled to begin this fall. "Star Wars: Starfighter" will introduce new characters, Gosling and Levy said at a "Star Wars" event in Tokyo in April. "The film is a new adventure, it features new characters, and it's set in a new time period," Levy said at the event.
The new installment in the franchise is set five years after the events of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker." The first film in the "Star Wars" saga was released in 1977, starring Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill. Films like "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" followed in the 1980s. New spin-offs followed later.
